MISSION STATEMENT To provide a safe and secure environment for homeless women in recovery and their children. |
Downtown Women's Center was founded in 1989 by Sister Mary Virginia Clark.
Since 2001, DWC has focused on homeless women in addiction recovery and their children. The number of homeless women served through DWC has tripled since 2007.
The success rate of women leaving our program and remaining sober for the
following twelve months is 81%.
DWC currently has beds for 27 women and up to 10 children in our two resident homes,
Abba House and Haven House. All of the women living in our homes are in recovery from addiction to alcohol or drugs. We employ a full-time Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) to give the women the tools to overcome their substance abuse.
The women are also required to attend Alcoholics/Narcotics Anonymous
meetings on a weekly basis.
DWC believes that the saving grace of Jesus Christ is an integral part of success in recovery. Women are offered weekly Bible studies that can ground them in God's Word.
Our goal is to provide spiritual mentors that can stand by the women as they walk through their recovery. Downtown Women's Center has a Licensed Master Social Worker and 3 degreed case managers on staff to assist our residents with health care, life skills, obtaining necessary documents for employment,
GED or college entrance, plus numerous other social service needs.
It is our desire to see our residents become positive contributors to our community as they leave their past behind and move toward self-sufficiency.
