Downtown Women's Center opened its first resale store, Thrift City in 2004 to provide income for operating expenses while also meeting a need in the community for good, quality resale items.

Since 2004 we have given away over $171,000.00 to the homeless and poor in Amarillo.  We collaborate with over 60 different agencies and organizations in Amarillo to help provide for their clients basic needs.

Thrift City is the location to find clothing, shoes, books, CD's, DVD's, and household items.

If you are looking for appliances or furniture, visit us at Thrift City 2.

Both stores will offer you a wide and varied selection of

pre-owned items that still have plenty of "life" in them.

The Uptown Shoppe is a beautiful store filled with antiques, silver, china, furs,

pre-owned but unworn clothing, and many one-of-a-kind gifts.

The Uptown Shoppe is also the exclusive dealer for several retail lines including

Carson Wind Chimes, The Faith Collection, Camille Beckman Skin Care, Olio Kitchen Kotta by Aspen Bay Candles

and Heritage Lace & Curtains.

GOALS

All of the items sold in our resale stores are donated to DWC and all of the proceeds are

used to meet the needs of the residents in Abba House, Haven House and Transitional Housing.

The main goal of our stores is to fund the work of Downtown Women's Center.

But we also have several other purposes.  The women residing in our homes are given the

opportunity to work at a store, which provides them with a small income

while also allowing them on-the-job training.

Thrift City and Thrift City 2 also employ many other homeless people from the

community along with the elderly and the disabled.

Another purpose for our stores is to give back to those in need.

Ten percent of everything given to us is given to those who are unable to pay.

We accept referrals for help with clothing, household items, and furniture from all of the

area agencies which serve the homeless.

We make every effort to fulfill all the requests we receive.

TO DONATE

If you have items to donate, please take them to the drop-off area at Thrift City, which is

located on the northwest corner of 10th & Monroe on the west side of the building.

We also provide a pick-up service in Amarillo & Canyon area.

Please call our office at 806-372-3625 to schedule a pick-up.

We do not solicit donations by telephone.

Due to the expense of running our vehicles, manpower and fuel costs, it would be an additional gift and help to us if you could bring your donation to Thrift City at the northwest corner of 10th & Monroe.
