With Guest Speaker
William C. Moyers
William Moyers is committed to eliminating barriers to recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. As Hazelden’s vice president of public affairs and community relations, Moyers leads the organization’s policy and advocacy activities. From “carrying the message” about addiction, treatment and recovery, to public policy and philanthropy, Moyers brings a wealth of professional expertise and an intimate personal understanding to communities across the nation. He uses his own experiences to highlight the power of addiction and the power of recovery.
Moyers was a journalist at various newspapers and CNN before he joined Hazelden in 1996. Over the years he has received numerous awards and honors for his work to eliminate the stigma about addiction and expand access to treatment for people suffering from alcoholism or drug dependence.
Moyers has appeared on Larry King Live, the Oprah Winfrey show, National Public Radio and he is a regular contributor to Good Morning America. His work has also been featured in the New York Times, USA Today and Newsweek magazine, among others. Each week Moyers also writes a nationally syndicated column on addiction-related issues for Creators Syndicate.
He is the author of Broken: My Story of Addiction and Redemption, a New York Times bestselling memoir that is now in its fourth printing. Moyers also is the author of A New Day, A New Life, a journal and DVD set designed specifically for people in early recovery.
Moyers lives with his three children in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
